How to have a stress-free holiday season
Thursday, December 13, 2012
Welcome to my blog! I'm Erika Schendel, Social Services Manager, Hudson Hospital & Clinic.
It’s holiday time and with that comes both joy and stress! If we are not careful, what is called “the most wonderful time of the year” can also become the most stressful. Trying to have everything prepared perfectly for the holidays, family conflicts, over scheduling yourself and your family, and overspending can all take away from the true meaning of the season.
Relax for a moment and take some time right now to plan some ways to ease into the season with a calm spirit and a positive attitude. Here are a few tips that can help you have a stress-free holiday season this year.
Plan and be organized – Set your top priorities and create a simple plan when it comes to preparing meals, hosting and shopping. Make lists and enlist the help of others whenever possible.
Make a budget – Don’t get caught up in the material things. Find creative and inexpensive ways to show others you care.
Take care of yourself – Eat healthy and exercise regularly. Don’t stress over your busyness or conflicts that may arise with others.
Set limits – It’s okay to say no. You don’t have to attend every party or continue to live out every tradition as you have in previous years. If you don’t feel like doing something, don’t! Do the things that are meaningful and fulfilling to you.
Give back – Take time to serve others. Bringing holiday cheer to someone in need will help remind you how blessed you are.
We wish you a happy and stress-free holiday season!
