Hi, I'm Heidi Hoschka, RN, CEN, Clinical Resource Nurse, Trauma Coordinator, Hudson Hospital Emergency Center
Welcome to my blog!
Have you ever heard...An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?
It’s true, since traumatic injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among people under 34 across the nation. And according to the American Medical Association, falls are the leading cause of injury-related emergency department visits and accidental deaths in persons over age 65.
That’s why Hudson Hospital & Clinic trauma prevention program focuses on outreach and education to reduce injury in the communities we serve. It’s all part of our Level IV Trauma Center state designation.
Injuries may occur at any age. Of the trauma patients seen in our Emergency Center last year, over half of the injuries were falls-related ranging from youth to the elderly. Hudson Hospital & Clinic trauma prevention is a collaborative partnership developed by the West Central Regional Trauma Advisory Council consisting of ambulance and hospital providers from Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin.
Our trauma prevention program continues to evolve and grow aligning with our Health dimension organizational goal – to improve optimal healthy behaviors.
Educational events we sponsor include bike and car seat safety; falls reduction and safety; mock crash demonstrations; emergency preparedness training; and mass casualty drills. Studies show community-based programs like these reduce injury incidence and deaths. Watch for our upcoming Car Seat Safety Event on May 30.
