Hi, I'm Pete VanDusartz, director, Clinical Counseling & Social Services, Welcome to my blog!
Raising awareness about alcohol abuse continues to be a top priority for us. Did you know...
Excessive alcohol use accounts for one in 10 deaths among working-age adults ages 20 - 64 in the U.S., according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control Prevention published in Preventing Chronic Disease.
Wisconsin continues to rank as the number one worst rate of binge drinking in the United States, and has for years. Recent research gives further details for excessive drinking.
- excessive drinking is the percentage of adults that report either binge drinking, defined as consuming more than 4 (women) or 5 (men) alcoholic beverages on a single occasion in the past 30 days
- heavy drinking, defined as drinking more than one (women) or 2 (men) drinks per day on average.
- The U.S. Median = 16%, Wisconsin state = 24%, St. Croix County = 30%, ranked 9th highest rate out of 72 counties (Pierce is 6th at 31%).
These are important public health data just published and supported in this recent article highlighting a new World Health Organization report.
On the plus side: “There are approximately 21 million Americans living in long term sobriety and recovery from alcoholism and other substance dependence.”
