During the past decade, parents and other caregivers have discovered the benefits and joys of using sign language with preverbal hearing babies. Why use sign language with babies who can hear? Babies can control their arms and hands before they develop the oral motor skills necessary for speech, so signing allows babies and toddlers to express their thoughts before they can speak. Great for both babies and their caregivers! Research has proven that using sign language to communicate with preverbal hearing babies is beneficial in several ways:
Workshop participants will receive handouts and a sign language reference guide for identification of 148 signs for reference at home.
Participants are encouraged to attend without their babies so distractions are minimized.

What is QiGong?
Qigong is calm focus, deep breathing and gently movement. Qigong is the cornerstone of traditional Chinese medicine. It has been practiced in China for over five thoughsand years and has proven benficial to health and wellness.
Over 240 million Chinese people practice Qigong, yet unlike acupuncture, acupressure, herbal medicine and tai chi, it remains unfamiliar to most Americans and others in western cultures. Qigong is a discipline that combines mental concentration, breathing techniques and body movements to activate and cultivate a person's "vital energy."
In Chinese, Qi or Chi (pronounced "chee") means "air" or "breath, vital energy and the universal force that is in all things." Gong is defined as "work, the function or benefit of this energy."
Qigong, like other holistic health practices, promotes the philosophy that a person's mind, body, and spirit are interconnected. Qigong also teaches that energy moves through channels or meridians in the body. The practice
of Qigong can enhance health and life by improving the flow of energy.
What is Spring Forest Qigong?
Spring Forest Qigong is a simple form of Qigong. It was founded in 1994 by Master Chunyi Lin. He developed the program after studying and practicing Qigong and Tai Chi for over twenty years with some of the world's most prominent teachers. Through his experiences, he found that there are thousands of Qigong exercises practiced around the world and determined that most of these techniques were too complicated and time-consuming for the average person to learn and practice easily. Spring Forest Qigong is designed to simplify the wellness experience without reducing its health benefits. Appropriate for beginners of all ages & most mobility capabilities.

All
of us, at every age, have glitches in our memory. How do you know if
your memory problems are "normal"? A memory problem is serious when it
affects your daily living. It's normal to sometimes forget names, but
you may have more serious problems if you have trouble remembering ho
to do things you've done many times before, getting to a place you've
been to often, or repeating phrases and stories. During this seminar,
Dr. Severson will discuss what "memory" really is including "normal"
memory, when you should be concerned, how you can exercise your emmory,
as well as how to better cope with ememory loss. Don't forget to put
this on your calendar!

If you’ve been diagnosed with high blood pressure, you may know the importance of making every effort to reduce it to prevent serious heart and health conditions. While many medications are available to help, there are natural ways, that when incorporated as part of your normal routine, can make a long-lasting impact on reducing high blood pressure.
Join us for an evening of meditation, light movement and nutrition tips that have been shown to help you better cope with stress and reduce high blood pressure. Including:
Meditation.
Taking regular time throughout your day to be mindful of thoughts and actions can help quiet the mind or body. Our Zen evening will spend approximately 90 minutes discussing and experiencing various meditation practices. Bring your favorite seat cushion for added comfort if you wish.
Yoga Movements.
Not just for the gurus anymore, some simple yoga movements and breathing techniques help distribute blood and tone muscles while improving overall circulation to help you better manage stress. During this event, you can expect to have beginner yoga demonstrations with time to practice. Wear loose clothes and comfortable shoes.
Eating Right.
Certain foods can promote or cause high blood pressure.

12 class sereies Thrusday's September 9 through December 2, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
During this class series, participants will learn Tai Chi Fundamental form in addition to practicing the "movement patterns" learned in Tai chi Basics 1 Class Series. Tai Chi Fundamentals Form adapts movements and principles of traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Ch'uan into a practice routine accessible to a wide range of abilities. It focuses on critical elements which enhance balance, coordination, strength and endurance. The form adaptation eliminates some of the more difficult martial arts movements.
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi (pronounced ti gee) is a graceful Chinese exercise used for health and relaxation. The slow and fluid movements of Tai Chi promote concentration, coordination and balance. A combination of mental and physical activity works to bring the mind, body and spirit into harmony and helps create energy flow and well-being.
What are the benefits of Tai Chi?
Current research suggest the practice of Tai Chi can improve balance, reduce falls and increase leg strength. It also lowers blood pressure, stress hormones, enhances respiratory and immune function, and promotes emotional well-being. Appropriate for beginners of all ages and most mobility capabilities.
