What is Community Benefit? As a member of a vibrant community, Hudson Hospital & Clinics works in many ways to extend our health care expertise beyond the walls of the campus and into area schools, neighborhoods and businesses. We do this because that’s where we find you. We also offer many programs for you here on our campus. Wherever we meet you, our goal is to support your best health and work to improve quality of life for our community.
You may be surprised to learn of the many programs and partnerships Hudson Hospital & Clinics has developed. We reach out to people who are poor and alone, we help prepare the community in case of disaster, we provide training in both clinical and non-clinical areas for the medical professionals of tomorrow, we offer free health education, we engage and inspire our youth, and we lead community-building activities. These programs and partnerships are all central to our mission of “Caring for the health of our community.”
Community benefit is more than charity care. Community benefit programs or activities provide treatment and/or promote health and healing in response to identified community needs, regardless of source or availability of payment. Many, if not most community benefit programs, are provided at a loss – with little or no compensation.
For a program or activity to “count” as community benefit it must:
- Support the organization’s community-based mission
- Address an identified community need AND meet at least one objective
- improve access to health care services
- enhance the health of the community
- advance medical or health care knowledge
- relieve/reduce the burden of government or other community efforts
Community Partners Hudson Hospital & Clinics works in collaboration with area organizations to improve community health and increase access to health care. Together, we work to find the best ways to target areas of concern. Knowing that program success depends on collaboration, we choose the right partners (with resources, information and knowledge) who have similar mission statements, same goals and the desire to work together, so that we can focus on the right programs or initiatives to yield successful outcomes.
Collaborations include:
- Heart2Heart Program
- Pierce/St. Croix County Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Program
- Photovoice Research
- St. Croix County Community Health Improvement Process (CHIP)
- West Central Regional Trauma Advisory Council (RTAC)
- Tobacco Coalition
