Knowing matters. Using advanced diagnostic technology, we’ll help you find answers and develop an endocrinology treatment plan that’s supported by the latest evidence-based research.

Starting with your first appointment, our doctors are here for you. We’ll help you understand your diagnosis and work with you to develop personalized treatment options.

The endocrine system affects almost every cell and organ in your body. It consists of groups of cells called glands, which make hormones that help control how your body works. Different glands release different hormones into your bloodstream to control important processes such as metabolism, reproduction, growth and development. Too much or too little of any hormone can cause health problems.

If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes or another hormonal disorder, we’re here to help. Our HealthPartners and Park Nicollet endocrinology teams are experts at understanding a broad range of health problems. Using our advanced diagnostic and treatment options, we’ll work with you to help you understand your diagnosis and create a personalized treatment plan.

Diagnosis

Symptoms of a hormonal disorder vary depending on which glands are affected and in what way.

As a first step toward understanding what’s causing your symptoms and getting treatment, we recommend that you start with a primary care doctor. Our primary care doctors can diagnose diabetes and many endocrine-related conditions. When the help of a specialist is needed, your primary care doctor will refer you to our team of endocrinologists.

When you meet with one of our expert endocrinologists, we’ll review the information your primary care doctor has shared with us. We may use blood, urine or other tests to further identify the cause of your symptoms and recommend an effective treatment plan.

Treatment

Our endocrinology team includes board-certified endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, health psychologists, registered dietitian nutritionists, physical therapists, nurses and certified diabetes educators. Working with you and your primary care doctor, we’ll create a customized treatment plan that gives you the knowledge and support you need to manage your health.

While treatment methods vary depending on the specific hormonal disorder, the most common option is medication. Special medications act like your natural hormones and effectively relieve symptoms.

Sometimes a procedure or surgery is the best treatment for an endocrine problem. Our specialists and surgeons use evidence-based, minimally invasive techniques for the best results. Minimally invasive surgery involves small incisions and is associated with less pain, a shorter hospital stay and fewer problems.

Most hormonal disorders are chronic and require ongoing care. We’ll help you learn more about your hormonal disorder and work to make important changes in your daily life. The members of your care team, including a registered dietitian nutritionist, behavioral health specialist and certified educator, are available to provide education and support as needed.

As a first step, we recommend scheduling an appointment with one of our primary care doctors. Our primary care providers are experts at diagnosing hundreds of conditions. If your primary care provider has recommended you see an endocrinologist, you can choose a doctor or a location to schedule your appointment.
