Pain management

Some women choose a medication-free delivery. Others want to explore pain management options. At the Hudson Hospital Birth Center, what’s important to you is important to us. We’ll help you understand your options and support your preferred birth plan. We offer the following pain management options so you can choose what works best for you throughout labor and delivery:

  • Nitrous oxide
  • Epidural
  • Other pain management medications

We also provide a variety of integrative therapies to help you relax and have a more comfortable experience. You can choose from complimentary services like:

  • Aromatherapy
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Music therapy

Water births

Having a water birth means planning to deliver your baby in a large birthing tub in your own private room. Many women find that water birth offers a gentle, empowering labor and birth experience. And studies show that laboring in warm water often reduces the length of labor and the need for medical interventions, like C-sections and episiotomies. The water helps women relax and cope better with contractions, reducing the need for pain medication.

Speak with your provider before requesting a water birth. Whether or not you’d like a water birth, you can always plan on laboring in the tub or shower.

The first few hours and days after the birth of your child are important for your healing, your baby’s health and your bond as a family. We want to help you feel confident in your new role as a parent. We’ll help you learn to care for yourself and your new baby as you get ready to go home. We also offer after-care services to give you continued support as you’re healing and adjusting to life at home with baby.

Our birth center has a nursery for newborns who need a little extra care, and for parents who need some time to rest. It’s staffed 24 hours a day by our experienced nurses and nurse practitioners who provide tender care and continuous, high-tech monitoring if needed.

Lactation Program for breastfeeding support

Research shows that breastfeeding has many benefits for both baby and mom. Nursing is natural, but it doesn’t always come naturally. It’s our goal to make sure you’re ready to breastfeed before you leave the birth center, and that you have continuing support as you adjust to life at home.

That’s why we developed the Lactation Program at Hudson Hospital Birth Center. We provide prenatal breastfeeding classes, in-patient support from lactation-certified nurses, as well as support when you return home by phone or appointment.

In addition to our on-site lactation consultants, our nurses and nurse practitioners receive annual training to support moms and babies who are navigating breastfeeding together.

Milk Depot Program

Sometimes a mother is not able to produce breast milk for her baby. Hudson Hospital Birth Center offers a Milk Depot Program that makes it possible for women with an ample supply of breast milk to share that gift with an infant in need.

Second only to mother's own breast milk, donated milk is a wonderful way for babies to receive the very best nutrition. Donor milk is often used as a bridge to help nourish babies until a birth mother's milk comes in.

We are a Milk Depot for patients who are registered milk bank donors. To learn how to donate breast milk, call our lactation consultants at 715-531-6572 or view our information sheet.
