Hudson Hospital Birth Center continues to boom – up 7 percent from 2012 with a total of 676 births in 2013 – breaking delivery records each year for the past five years. They offer special amenities, a premiere birthing experience, and a wellness in birth philosophy which attracts patients locally, regionally and across the metro area to Hudson. The Birth Center nursing staff consistently ranks in the 95 percentile on patient satisfaction surveys.
“What attracts our patients to experience our Birth Center is our focus on wellness in birth. We encourage women to be part of their birthing plan and our efforts balance a premiere experience with quality and safety for moms and babies,” says Marti Davies, manager, Hudson Hospital Birth Center.
Patients have many provider options for their care including four OB/GYNs, a Midwife and many family physicians from Hudson Physicians. Marking a pattern of growth over the last few years, deliveries have jumped considerably each year. In 2011, Hudson saw a large spike in deliveries totaling 624. Every year since, this trend has continued with 642 deliveries in 2012 and 676 in 2013.
Hudson is one of only a few hospitals in western Wisconsin to offer a wide range of services including waterbirths, twin deliveries, and vaginal birth after cesarean (meeting safety criteria). New programs offered in the Birth Center include a lactation program with two Certified Lactation Consultants; and outpatient lactation visits. The donor milk program offers an option for babies to supplement with human breast milk instead of formula. In 2014, the Birth Center is working toward becoming a Breast Milk Depot so moms in the local area can donate extra breast milk.
Patients often share their enthusiasm and satisfaction with our Birth Center. A recent patient commented, “Every nurse I had was super friendly and really helped ease my fears. I was very happy I switched my care over to Hudson Hospital Birth Center.”
“The Birth Center nursing staff views each delivery as a unique and rewarding experience,” says Davies. We also offer a comprehensive family education program with many childbirth and family class options, breastfeeding classes and a mother’s support group. “Our childbirth and family educator, Paige Lewis, provides an exceptional education program that compliments their experience with our nurses and providers in the Birth Center. As a result, patients enjoy a premier birthing experience at Hudson.”
