The yumPower brand is a HealthPartners initiative to promote and educate the public about healthier food choices. Last week, yumPower arrived on the Hudson Hospital & Clinic campus. The hospital Café offered an event for staff, visitors and volunteers to learn about yumPower healthy food choices.
The yumPower commercials have aired for several months on local television featuring celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern showing kids that eating healthy is easy – easier than eating something as outrageous as tarantulas and assorted bugs! It gets their attention – moms and dads too, and offers a good message – choose better-for-you food options.
On Wednesday, September 26, during lunch, hospital staff and visitors celebrated a yumPower event. They learned how Nutrition Care and the Café has taken another step to offer healthy options to Café customers. Nutrition Care at Hudson Hospital is already leading the way with healthy choices through their Sustainable Nutrition efforts to improve the health of staff, visitors and patients. This includes offering daily choices of freshly prepared healthier options. They buy and serve locally grown fresh vegetables, fruits and most recently - pork items available to patients, visitors and staff. “At Hudson Hospital, we’re commitment to increase offerings of fruits and vegetables, reduce fats and sweetened foods, take steps to encourage current vendors to procure local food, and work directly with local farms,” says Jean Weiler, manager, Nutrition Care, Hudson Hospital & Clinic.
The yumPower event also celebrated the hospital’s newly installed yumPower wrap for one of the Café snack food vending machines which offers at least 50% yumPower better-for-you options. Using yumPower criteria, Weiler identified better-for-you snack choices and offered yumPower labeling and nutritional information on the vending machine. At the event, Nutrition Care served a tasty treat - one of the healthy yumPower recipes: Butternut Squash Pumpkin Bread, along with a fresh apple to go. One of the entrée options served at lunch was a yumPower favorite: Tilapia (Salmon or other substitute) with fresh vegetables. Plenty of nutritional education materials were available, including recipes, and an opportunity to play "Which One's Better for You" nutrition game. Hudson Hospital is officially yumPowed offering healthy better-for-you options to patients, visitors and staff.
