Hudson, Wis. – Becker’s Hospital Review has named Hudson Hospital & Clinic one of its 60 Greenest Hospitals in America.
The hospitals featured on this list embrace ways to reduce their environmental footprint in the community.
Hudson Hospital & Clinic has a robust program to lower energy consumption as well as promoting green efforts across the organization. “Although it is wonderful to be recognized for the work we’re doing in sustainability, that’s not why we do it,” said Jeff Persells, Hudson Hospital & Clinic Plant Operations Manager and chair of the hospital’s Green Team. “We prioritize green practices because it’s the right thing to do – for our patients, our staff and the environment and community.”
To compile the list, the Becker's editorial team considered nominations and conducted editorial research, looking at awards won from Practice Greenhealth, the U.S. Green Building Council, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Hudson Hospital & Clinic won a Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth earlier this year. The hospital additionally picked up awards for Circles of Excellence - Food (Top 10 recognition), Circles of Excellence – Water (Top 10 recognition) and Greening the Operating Room at the ceremony in Minneapolis in May.
The hospital’s ongoing commitment to sustainability includes efforts such as an annual community electronics recycling event, printing reduction measures, LED light bulb replacement program and hosting community gardens.
