The WI Sustainable Business Council’s Green Master’s Program recognizes sustainable actions by businesses from across the state. Hudson Hospital & Clinic recently earned the “Green Professional” level in the WI Green Master’s Program for a comprehensive sustainability program including energy efficiency, waste minimization, sector leading sustainable food service, environmentally preferred purchasing and other initiatives. “To be identified by the WI Sustainable Business Council as a leader in the state is recognition of all the hard work our teams do every day to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities, and it is a direct reflection of our mission, vision and values, ”says Dana Slade, Sustainability Program Manager, HealthPartners.
Developed by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council and Wisconsin businesses, in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Green Master’s Program recognizes Wisconsin's sustainability leaders. Sustainability is defined through nine key areas of action and all participants need to have taken at least one action in each of the nine areas. Through an on-line survey of their actions, companies identify their strengths while generating ideas for additional actions. The survey provides information to the Green Master’s Program of continuous improvement by establishing three levels of participation: Green Apprentice, Green Professional and Green Master. Companies scoring between 9 and 150 points qualify for the Green Apprentice level; companies scoring over 150 points qualify for the Green Professional level.
“We’re thrilled by the 50% growth of the Green Master’s Program and the continued commitment to sustainability throughout the State of Wisconsin. We’ve grown to 167 participating businesses, which is testament to the innovation and leadership that Wisconsin businesses are demonstrating when it comes to sustainability initiatives.” said Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the WI Sustainable Business Council. Each December, at the WI Sustainable Business Council annual meeting, the top 20% of companies are recognized with the top level of achievement – Green Masters. This year 34 Wisconsin businesses have been recognized as Green Masters demonstrating a commitment to sustainability leadership both within their sectors and in their communities.
