Hudson Hospital & Clinic, along with all HealthPartners hospitals and clinics, are recognized for being "Most Wired" in the latest issue of Hospital & Health Network's (H&HN) magazine, a publication of the American Hospital Association. The honor recognizes effective use of electronic medical records and technology at all four HealthPartners hospitals (Regions, Lakeview, Westfields and Hudson) and at HealthPartners clinics which includes Stillwater Medical Group clinics and HealthPartners Roberts Clinic.
H&HN polled about 1,570 hospitals for the survey which is about 27 percent of all U.S. hospitals. The survey measures the level of IT adoption and is an industry-standard benchmark study. Hospitals are rated based on use of information technology in five areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
“This honor is important because it means better, more coordinated care, it allows us to be easier and simpler to work with our patients, and helps us avoid waits and delays,” said Mary Brainerd, HealthPartners president and CEO.
HealthPartners health information technology includes:
- Remote telemetry to monitor vital signs from a central location
- PACs, (picture archiving and communications systems) for sharing x-rays electronically across all HealthPartners sites and with referring providers
- Bar code scanning for lab specimen collection and medication management to increase security and safety
- Automatic checks for drug interactions and drug allergies when medications are ordered as a major step in reducing medication errors
- Advance clinical decision support built in to electronic medical records that aggregates clinical information and provides evidence-based guidelines at the point-of-care
- Wi-Fi at all hospitals
This is the fourth year in a row that HealthPartners has been named ‘Most Wired.’ HealthPartners was an early adopter of electronic medical records and has been building upon this technology for more than 15 years.
Founded in 1957, HealthPartners is the largest consumer-governed, non-profit health care organization in the nation. It serves more than 1.4 million medical and dental health plan members nationwide.
