HUDSON, WI—Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) has announced its plan to develop a senior living community on land immediately east of and adjacent to Hudson Hospitals & Clinic (HHC). The plan will be brought to the Hudson City Council for approval on April 21, 2014. Pending approvals, construction is anticipated to begin in June 2014.
Although still in the conceptual stage, construction of the as-yet-unnamed community will provide housing and services for the growing population of older adults in Hudson and the St. Croix Valley. “We look forward to working with City of Hudson to expand senior housing and care options to older adults in Hudson and the St. Croix Valley,” said Pamela Belz, Project Developer with Senior Housing Partners, a subsidiary of PHS. Residential neighbors were invited to an informational meeting on April 3 and a public hearing on the proposed site plan was held on April 10.
Plans for the first phase feature construction of a medical suite for DaVita dialysis clinic that will offer 12 chronic dialysis stations and two home training rooms. The state-of-the-art-suite is expected to open in Fall 2014, bringing comprehensive kidney care close to home for those living in the Hudson area. Construction will then begin for housing that will include 160 senior apartments, assisted living and memory care apartments, and an array of amenities.
PHS, HHC and DaVita have been collaborating collectively on this opportunity for the past 3 years. PHS and HealthPartners, which owns and manages HHC, have a long history of collaboration serving older adults including Westfield Hospital and The Deerfield in New Richmond, WI and Lakeview Hospital and Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN. The two non-profit organizations share an alignment of mission, vision and values that serves the St. Croix Valley well.
DaVita’s long-standing business relationship with HHC to provide kidney care to the Hudson Community adds value to the collaboration. Dr. Randa El Husseini, a Hudson Hospital Specialty Clinic nephrologist, will serve as Medical Director at the DaVita dialysis clinic. “DaVita is proud to be collaborating with Presbyterian Homes & Services and to continue our relationship with Hudson Hospital & Clinic to provide kidney care to the Hudson Community,” said Cari Dock, Regional Operations Director of DaVita.
Each organization brings a good reputation, stability and rich history in service to older adults. The 3-way collaboration is a first of its kind in the region. “We are building on the strong relationship we share with HealthPartners. Our efforts with Hudson Hospital & Clinic and DaVita Dialysis will translate into support and choices for older adults in the St. Croix Valley now and into the future,” said Dan Lindh, President and CEO of PHS.
“To meet the health care needs of our community, senior care has been a significant commitment of both the hospital and HealthPartners,” said Marian Furlong, CEO of HHC. “Through our collaboration with Presbyterian Homes & Services, additional options of senior housing and services will be available with a continuum of care adjacent to our health campus. We will also continue our long term relationship with Christian Community Home and Pine Ridges by providing medical services to their residents.
