Tai Chi Basics 1 Class Series
For beginners. Tuesdays 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays 5-6 p.m.
Weight-bearing and moderate cardio exercises combined, Tai Chi uses gentle movements. In this class you will learn twelve movement patterns of proper body positions and breathing. These exercises are designed to reinforce functional movements repeated throughout the Tai Chi form. Introduction to slow deep breathing helps you slow your heart rate and reduce anxiety.
During classes, you will learn Tai Chi techniques, movements and mind/body principles to improve breathing, coordination of footwork, balance and flexibility.
Tai Chi Basics 2 Class Series
Tuesdays 8:30-9:30 a.m. and Wednesdays 4-5 p.m.
During this class series, participants will learn Tai Chi Fundamental form in addition to practicing the "movement patterns" learned in Tai chi Basics 1 Class Series. Tai Chi Fundamentals Form adapts movements and principles of traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Ch'uan into a practice routine accessible to a wide range of abilities. It focuses on critical elements which enhance balance, coordination, strength and endurance. The form adaptation eliminates some of the more difficult martial arts movements.
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi (pronounced ti gee) is a graceful Chinese exercise used for health and relaxation. The slow and fluid movements of Tai Chi promote concentration, coordination and balance. A combination of mental and physical activity works to bring the mind, body and spirit into harmony and helps create energy flow and well-being.
What are the benefits of Tai Chi?
Current research suggest the practice of Tai Chi can improve balance, reduce falls and increase leg strength. It also lowers blood pressure, stress hormones, enhances respiratory and immune function, and promotes emotional well-being. Appropriate for beginners of all ages and most mobility capabilities.
