Hudson, Wis. – Hudson moms are enthusiastic about Hudson Hospital & Clinic’s newest class: Yoga with Babies. Infants aren’t quite doing downward dogs or sun salutations in the class – rather, it’s an opportunity for caregivers and babies to bond with one another, while getting some convenient health benefits.
Instructor Nealee Morrison said: “Yoga with Babies sets up a healthy lifestyle with focused stretches and mindful breathing. It can help calm, aid in digestion and encourage better sleep for baby. Another benefit of the class is that it helps caregivers to connect with their own bodies, with baby and other caregivers in the class.”
The first session, which attracted three moms and their babies, was so successful that all three immediately re-enrolled in a second course. They said the only reason they didn’t enroll for a third time was that all three infants became mobile during the second class – making exercises a little more challenging!
Mom-of-two Sadie Prise, who brought baby boy Wolf to the class, said: “I thought the yoga class for babies would be a great thing not only for myself because I love yoga, but also to connect with my baby and get out of the house, which can be tough with two under-twos! These classes are a little mental break to relax and connect with your baby. The teacher is really great and knows her stuff and is easy to relate to. And the support from the other moms is nice.”
Hudson mother Amy Killeen has four children and wanted to make sure she carved out one-on-one time for baby Eleanor. “Nealee, the instructor, was my prenatal yoga instructor so when I heard she was teaching this class, I signed up. I wish every mom could do it. It’s been such fun bonding and Nealee is great – a lot of fun.”
Laura Herzog and baby Ellie, who live in Hudson, appreciated the time to connect with one another and the others in the class. “I just enjoy that the yoga class for babies is a chance for us to slow down and connect outside of normal, busy life,” said Laura. “And being able to talk to other moms who have little ones the same age is extremely beneficial.”
