Hudson Hospital & Clinics is now using an Electronic Health Record system
Hudson, WI, August 1, 2009 – Hudson Hospital & Clinics, member of HealthPartners family of care, join the ranks of a growing number of innovative hospitals implementing electronic medical records. The go live date of the Epic® health care information technology system was August 1, 2010.
Hudson Hospital & Clinics staff have been working over the past year to design and implement the Epic electronic health record, and will be joining Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN, WestfieldsHospital, New Richmond, WI and HealthPartners Clinics, Twin Cities, online with the Epic system – creating a regional HealthPartners network further integrated through information technology.
According to Managed Healthcare Executive Magazine, only 2 percent of hospitals in the U.S. are currently using a comprehensive electronic system like Epic to manage patient records. The U.S. Government is mandating the use of electronic health records by 2014.
The electronic health records system allows physicians and other authorized staff to view patient records right in the clinic or at the bedside. The patient data is used just like a paper chart to track treatment and help each shift of caregivers stay current on each patient’s needs and status.
The secure system tracks data like medical images, medication history, physician notes, treatment history, and previous surgeries, and makes it immediately available at other locations within the system. For example, a patient’s record from Hudson will be immediately available to Regions Hospital Emergency Center staff should the patient be transferred or admitted to the St. Paul hospital. This access increases quality and safety and supports caregivers in making the best possible treatment decisions. All information is immediately accessible throughout the system as soon as updates are added.
In addition to patients having online access to their health information, customers will have online access to test results, medication refill ordering and appointment requests.
