Nutrition Care

Eating the right foods is important for everyone. Having long-term healthy eating habits are directly connected to helping prevent illness and disease, as well as increasing your ability to enjoy a long and happy life. Your nutrition is especially important if you are diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, or have ongoing issues with weight management.

Over a lifetime, what’s “healthy” may change with your age, lifestyle and even during times of illness and recovery. Hudson Hospital’s Nutrition Care offers programs and services to help get you on the right track for a diet that’s right
for you.

Hospital Nutrition Care
As a result of a nutrition assessment, and in consultation with your clinical care team, hospital patients receive recommendations to foods, portion sizes and supplements for the best possible health or recovery. The assessment also
includes instruction and guidance to promote the healthiest of long-term diet
and eating habits.

Weight management at every age comes from a lifestyle that includes accurate information, good nutrition and regular physical activity. Healthy Habits for Life is a well-rounded weight management program teaching a long-term approach through education, support and guidance.

This balanced, twelve-class series is taught by Hudson Hospital’s registered dietitian and certified weight management specialist – meaning expert education, guidance and personalized care from a health professional.

To support forming healthier habits, each participant receives:

  • MedGem® Metabolic Measurement (a test that gives healthcare professionals precise information to help determine nutritional requirements)
  • Computerized analysis and interpretation of food intake
  • Body composition, size and weight measurements
  • Customized meal plan
  • High- quality, interactive class materials

DASH Diet Hypertension Reduction Series
Whether you’ve been diagnosed with high blood pressure or at risk of developing high blood pressure, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) eating plan could help you. Patients in DASH research studies who used the eating plan were able to lower their blood pressure to the same extent as other patients who took antihypertensives.

Basic principles of the DASH eating plan include:

  • Reduce the overall amount of fat, saturated fat and cholesterol
  • Increase the number of fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy foods
  • Increase fiber intake by including whole grain products
  • Reduce the amount of sodium
  • Reduce sweets and sugar-containing beverages

During this six-session class series, you’ll learn in detail how this eating plan can help you. You’ll receive support and guidance to help ensure you are able to successfully make the DASH eating plan part of your regular daily life.
