Dr. Schneider received a Bachelor of Science Degree, summa cum laude, from the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota in 1976.
He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society while attending the University of Minnesota Medical School where he received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1981. During his senior year in medical school, Dr. Schneider was honored with a scholarship at Birmingham General Hospital and the University of Birmingham Hospital in Birmingham, England. While there he studied medicine, surgery, endoscopy and pathology. He also completed an orthopaedic surgery clerkship at the Mayo Clinic. While in medical school,
he performed clinical research on anterior cruciate ligament surgery.  He has published in
professional journals.

He completed an internship in general surgery at Hennepin County Medical Center in 1982. His residency training in orthopaedic surgery was at the University of Minnesota, the Veterans' Hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center, the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children and Gillette Children's Hospital. He completed his training in 1986.

Dr. Schneider became certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic surgery in 1989. He was recertified by the Board in 1998. As a part of the recertification process, he completed a comprehensive examination and had the highest score in the nation. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
